Michael De Alessi, director of the Center for Private Conservation, specializes in marine conservation issues. The CPC is a project of the Competitive Enterprise Institute, a Washington, DC-based public interest group dedicated to the principles of free enterprise and limited government.

He received a B.A. in Economics and an M.S. in Engineering Economic Systems from Stanford University and an M.A. in Marine Policy from the Rosenstiel School of Marine and Atmospheric Science at the University of Miami. He is the author of Fishing for Solutions, and his articles on the oceans have appeared in such publications as New Scientist, Journal of Commerce, International Herald Tribune, The Wall Street Journal Europe and The Asian Wall Street Journal.
