Dan Quayle To Address Institute Dinner: Former Vice President Will Offer Assessment of Environmental Issues

April 15, 1999

Washington, D.C., April 15, 1999 – Former Vice President Dan Quayle will give the keynote address at the Competitive Enterprise Institute’s (CEI) Warren T. Brookes Memorial Dinner next week at the Watergate Hotel in Washington, DC. In response to Earth Day, Mr. Quayle will offer his assessment of environmental policy – and how to improve it.

During his term as Vice President, Dan Quayle served as chairman of the President’s Council on Competitiveness, and directed the Administration’s effort to reduce the burden of federal regulation.

"We are very pleased the Vice President can join us at our Warren Brookes Dinner," commented Fred L. Smith, Jr., president of CEI. "While he served our country as Vice President, he was a leader in the fight for more sensible environmental policy for America"

Upon the death of Warren Brookes eight years ago, CEI developed a fellowship in his honor. This honor, the Warren T. Brookes Fellowship in Environmental Journalism, is awarded each year to a journalist working in the environmental field. This year’s Fellow, Brian Doherty, will be introduced at the dinner. "Brian hit the ground running," commented Smith. "In the true spirit of Warren Brookes, he is exposing and researching many of the myths surrounding environmental and regulatory policy."
