Food Before Fuel Campaign Urges Obama, Congress to End Ethanol Subsidies

Washington, D.C., November 18, 2008—On Tuesday, November 18, members and allies of the Food Before Fuel Campaign will host a press event calling on the Congress and the President-Elect to revisit ethanol subsidies in 2009.

“After 30 years of government coddling, it's time for this infant industry to grow up and succeed or fail on its own merits,” said Marlo Lewis, CEI Senior Fellow and member of the Food Before Fuel Campaign.

“If ethanol is commercially viable then no government support is needed; if it is not commercially viable, no amount of government support can make it so,” said Lewis.

The Food Before Fuel Campaign represents a growing movement to change direction on ethanol policies, starting with a move to end taxpayer subsidies for the ethanol industry.

What: Press conference hosted by the Food Before Fuel campaign and other allies to mark the 30th anniversary of ethanol subsidies. The group will call on the President-elect and the new Congress to work together to end ethanol subsidies. They will also present survey findings.
