High Cost Is Not Worst Thing About Obamacare (Letter to the Editor)

 

The Examiner was right to criticize Obamacare for being even more costly than many of its opponents expected, but the worst things about it go beyond dollars and cents. It will stifle medical innovation in the coming years, resulting in countless preventable deaths.

Last November, the dean of Harvard Medical School noted that Obamacare would “reduce our capacity to innovate and develop new therapies” that save lives. Health care expert Michael Cannon echoed that it will reduce medical “innovation to the detriment of the entire world.”

Obamacare will also result in an explosion of lawsuits against employers’ health plans by stripping them of protection against unnecessary lawsuits based on paperwork technicalities, and by displacing settled exhaustion principles in employee benefits litigation
