A Would-Be Dictator (Letter to the Editor)

As a lawyer, I am disturbed by your claim that Honduras’s courts should ’’allow’’ the return to power of that country’s former president, Manuel Zelaya, whom they ordered removed from office, citing his constitutional violations (’’Mr. Arias steps in,’’ Editorial, July 11).

Foreigners have no right to overrule Honduran courts on a matter of Honduran law.

That would be imperialism.

Former President Zelaya was legally removed after he used intimidation and aid from Venezuela’s dictator to try to illegally extend his rule, and he was duly replaced by the leader of Honduras’s Congress.

Foreign countries should stop pressuring Honduras to allow the return to power of this would-be dictator.
