Washington, D.C., November 1, 2011 -- On Monday, October 24, the Competitive Enterprise Institute hosted a Capitol Hill briefing on E-Verify, the controversial electronic employment verification system that is the subject of legislation pending before the U.S. House of Representatives.
In addition to a lively panel discussion about E-Verify, the event featured a vigorous exchange during Q&A in which legislative staffers and policy advocates debated various aspects of the system with the panelists. One panelist, the ACLU’s Chris Calabrese, wrote that the event [2] was “far and away the best [he’d] had the privilege to be part of.”
>> A highlight reel from the event is available on YouTube here [3] (the Q&A begins at 2:40).

CEI Immigration Policy Analyst Alex Nowrasteh [5] moderated the discussion panel. Participants included Chris Calabrese, legislative counsel at the American Civil Liberties Union; Andrew Langer, president of the Institute for Liberty; David Burton, general counsel for the National Small Business Association; and Phillip Wolgin, immigration policy analyst at the Center for American Progress.
