Washington, D.C., November 1, 2002—This afternoon Judge Colleen Kollar-Kotelly will release her much-anticipated ruling in the government’s antitrust suit against Microsoft Corp. The ruling will determine whether the settlement reached by Microsoft and state <?xml:namespace prefix = o ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:office" />
and federal attorneys will stand, and whether a group of nine other states will be granted a more severe remedy.
The ruling could have a dramatic effect on both the technology sector and the wider economy at a time when markets are desperately trying to stave off a recession. If Judge Kollar-Kotelly decides to reject the settlement reached by Microsoft and the government, the case, which is already several years old, could stretch far into the future.
For reaction to the ruling, contact the communications department of the Competitive Enterprise Institute or Senior Fellow James V. DeLong at 202.331.1010, ext. 204.
