In these economically and politically unsettling times, it can be easy to lose hope and become fearful for the wellbeing of current and future generations.  While the special-interests opposing us in our fight for economic and personal freedom are deeply entrenched, we at CEI take heart in the knowledge that, for the first time in our lifetimes, there is finally a real freedom movement growing in America.

As wealth-destroying government policies grow increasingly burdensome, the people cannot help but take note.  And take note they have!

As the rapid growth of both the Tea Party movement and the overlapping free market youth movement have shown us, America’s tolerance for the rampant growth of government is nearing the end of its rope.

At the Competitive Enterprise Institute, our mission has always been twofold—first, to fan the flames of freedom by educating the public about the trampling effect government intervention has on the advancement of human wellbeing, and second, to strike decisive blows for liberty through both litigation and by providing intellectual ammunition to policymakers, locally and internationally.

Here are a few of our recent major accomplishments:

• CEI emerged victorious in our Supreme Court challenge to a section of the 2002 Sarbanes-Oxley Act, ruled unconstitutional on June 28th, 2010.
• CEI published the 2010 edition of Ten Thousand Commandments: An Annual Snapshot of the Federal Regulatory State, which shows that compliance with the nation’s monstrous regulatory apparatus cost a staggering $1.187 trillion in 2009.  Shortly after publication, Congressman Ron Paul of Texas cited our report in a widely distributed “Dear Colleague” letter as support for the Congressional Responsibility and Accountability Act, a bill he introduced to Congress a few months earlier.
• CEI Counsel and Senior Fellow Chris Horner published his latest book, Power Grab: How Obama’s Green Policies Will Steal Your Freedom and Bankrupt America, an exposé of the Green Movement’s rise to political power and the frightening consequences of Obama’s Green-friendly energy mandates.  Click here to view the author’s interview with Fox News.
• CEI’s analysts have appeared in an average of five major media outlets a day throughout 2010, including The Wall Street Journal, Fox News, The New York Times, The New York Post, The Washington Post, and The Baltimore Sun.
