CEI's General Counsel Sam Kazman and an NRDC spokesman debate the grislier aspects of federal fuel economy standards on Fox & Friends.
Kazman argues that fuel economy standards limit consumer choice. In order to meet the most recent mandates, passed last December, cars will have to be made much lighter, and therefore less safe.
These fuel mandates, like CAFE standards, place fuel efficiency above safety—a choice that should be left up to individual consumers.
For more information on the bad effects of federal fuel economy mandates, see Kazman's recent OnPoint study "First, Do No Harm to Motorists."
