Today Reps. Steve Scalise (R, LA) and David McKinley (R, WV) introduced a resolution “expressing the sense of Congress that a carbon tax would be detrimental to the United States economy.” CEI joined a coalition of groups supporting this measure.
CEI Senior Fellow Marlo Lewis said the following about this resolution’s introduction:
A carbon tax is like all other “progressive” climate policies. All ratchet up over time until their politically-disfavored victims are financially depleted and politically marginalized. In short, a carbon tax is a form of economic warfare waged by government against otherwise perfectly lawful enterprises. That is not how business is done in a free society and this resolution from Reps. Scalise and McKinley gets it exactly right.
CEI Center for Energy and Environment Director Myron Ebell said:
A tax on fossil fuel energy would not only raise consumer energy prices, it would also raise prices on nearly every product and service in the economy. Carbon taxes are not a conservative solution to anything.
