CEI Leads Coalition Supporting NLRB Joint Employer Fix: the Save Local Businesses Act (H.R. 3441)

News Releases

Today, CEI sent a coalition letter to the U.S. House of Representatives in favor of the Save Local Business Act (H.R. 3441), which would restore and harmonize standards on when two or more businesses are deemed to be joint employers. The bill is scheduled for Wednesday mark up by the House Education and the Workforce Committee. In total, 29 free market groups signed onto the letter. which explains the negative impact the NLRB's ruling will have on countless small businesses and their employees nationwide and urges the House to pass the bill.

CEI labor policy expert Trey Kovacs said:

The National Labor Relations Board joint employer rule puts people’s jobs and businesses at risk. The Obama-era NLRB decision upended decades-old rules that businesses relied on to create thousands of mutually beneficial business-to-business relationships. Now, job creators face the prospect of near-unlimited liability that will lead to reduced opportunities for entrepreneurs and hardworking Americans. The Save Local Business Act corrects the problem by providing employers, large and small, with a clear definition of where joint employer liability begins and ends.

Congress has a real opportunity to demonstrate a commitment to economic growth, relieve small businesses from red tape, and remove uncertain liability facing entrepreneurs.
