Coalition Opposes Obama NLRB Nominee
The Competitive Enterprise Institute (CEI) and a coalition of 11 free-market and conservative organizations sent a letter today to all Members of the U.S. Senate urging them to oppose the confirmation of Lauren McFerran to the National Labor Relations Board (NLRB) until she can be properly vetted by the Senate. One month is not time enough to question and consider someone who will wield considerable power over U.S. labor policy, the letter points out.
Specifically, the coalition questions McFerran’s positions on crucial upcoming NLRB issues such as card-check organizing that could end secret ballot union elections and whether franchise corporations are jointly responsible for franchisees’ employees’ wages, benefits, and working conditions. Members of the Senate and the American people deserve to know how McFerran would consider such matters, yet that information remains unknown and unexamined.
The coalition makes the further point that there is no need to rush the confirmation process, given the fact that the NLRB has operated with fewer than five members for 90 percent of the time over the last 10 years.
