<?xml:namespace prefix = st1 ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:smarttags" />Washington, D.C., June 11, 2003—The Competitive Enterprise Institute is proud to welcome Iain Murray to its project on global warming and international environmental policy as Senior Fellow. Murray will serve as editor of Cooler Heads, the newsletter of the Cooler Heads Coalition, and as a policy analyst writing on a broad range of environmental and scientific topics.
“The addition of Iain to CEI’s environmental team will significantly advance our ability to tackle the most controversial environmental issues—like global warming—with a confident, science-based approach,” said CEI President Fred L. Smith, Jr. “He is an excellent analyst and I look forward to the issues his writing will address.”
Murray writes a weekly column, “Data Dump,” for Tech Central Station and a biweekly one, “Recent Research Suggests,” for United Press International. Before coming to CEI, he was Senior Analyst and then Director of Research at the Statistical Assessment Service, a nonpartisan nonprofit that studied how scientific and statistical information were used or misused by the media and policymakers.
Originally from the United Kingdom, Mr. Murray emigrated to the United States in 1997, after having worked at the British Department of Transport, advising Ministers on railroad privatization, the role of private finance in infrastructure investment, and the role of transportation in the economic development of London.
Murray has published extensively, including in the Encyclopedia Britannica, Washington Post, USA Today, Chicago Tribune, and (London) Spectator. Mr. Murray is also a Visiting Fellow at the British think tank Civitas: The Institute for the Study of Civil Society. He holds a BA and MA from the University of Oxford, an MBA from the University of London, and the Diploma of the Imperial College of Science, Technology and Medicine.
CEI is a non-profit, non-partisan public policy group dedicated to the principles of free enterprise and limited government.
