The Competitive Enterprise Institute is hosting a private luncheon featuring CEI Research Fellow Patrick Hedger.

Technically, the Internet just turned fifty years old. Over the last twenty years, it has become a ubiquitous part of Americans’ lives at work and at home. CEI Research Fellow Patrick Hedger will discuss the state of the Internet, from the wires to the edge, and what major policy issues will shape the World Wide Web going forward. As the 2020 campaign heats up, politicians on both sides of the aisle are making “tech monopolies” a central issue. Patrick refutes this as paradox. He argues the accused—Facebook, Apple, Alphabet, Amazon—are all fierce competitors and we must preserve their pro-consumer dynamic.

Patrick Hedger is a Research Fellow at CEI’s Center for Technology and Innovation. With a focus on Internet and telecommunications policy, Patrick produces commentary and analysis on how limited-government policies facilitate innovation and competition. Prior to joining CEI, Patrick served as Director of Policy at FreedomWorks Foundation where he oversaw the organization’s work on regulatory reform, including a successful campaign to support the Federal Communications Commission’s Restoring Internet Freedom Order in 2017.
