Richard Tren is a founder and director of the South African health advocacy group Africa Fighting Malaria. He has conducted a considerable amount of research into the political economy of malaria control and has published widely on the topic.

Richard Tren is an adjunct fellow with Competitive Enterprise Institute and a founder and director of the South African health advocacy group Africa Fighting Malaria. He has conducted a considerable amount of research into the political economy of malaria control and has published widely on the topic. He has also written widely on health and development policy and has been published in, among others, the Business Day in South Africa, the Wall Street Journal Europe and the Business Standard in India. With co-author Dr. Roger Bate, he wrote When Politics Kills: Malaria and the DDT Story, which was published in South Africa, the United Kingdom, the U.S. and India.

Tren was CEI's 2009 Julian L. Simon Memorial Award recipient.
