Dr. James Broughel is a Senior Fellow at the Competitive Enterprise Institute. Dr. Broughel is an accomplished economist whose expertise lies in regulatory institutions and the impact of regulations on economic growth. He is author of the book “Regulation and Economic Growth: Applying Economic Theory to Public Policy” and is a regular columnist at Forbes, where he writes on topics such as energy and cryptocurrency.
His writing has also been featured in esteemed publications such as the Wall Street Journal, the Los Angeles Times, and the Washington Post. In addition to his popular writing, Broughel has published in academic journals, including Regulation & Governance, Contemporary Economic Policy, and the Harvard Journal of Law & Public Policy: Federalist Edition. Broughel holds a PhD in economics from George Mason University, and a BA and MA in economics from Hunter College of the City University of New York. James is currently a Hoover Institution Visiting Fellow under the State and Local Governance Initiative’s new Small Business Regulation research program. CEI is excited to have him on board as a valuable addition to our team.
