The Competitive Enterprise Institute is a 501(c)(3) non-profit public policy organization. Its mission is to reform our nation’s regulatory system and to promote economic liberty, opportunity, and prosperity by educating policy makers and the public about the principles of limited government, free enterprise, and individual liberty.
Since its founding in 1984, CEI has become an effective advocate for freedom on a range of regulatory policy issues, including energy, environment, business and finance, labor, technology and telecommunications, transportation, and food and drug regulation.
CEI publishes original analyses in multiple formats that make the case for an issue based on sound research and puts that research to work through programs that educate policy makers around the country and the public at large.
For more than 35 years, CEI has consistently supported free market solutions to public policy issues instead of government regulation. Its work is funded by donations from supporters and allies who share its values and policy priorities, including individuals, businesses, and foundations. CEI does not accept government funding and its work is independently directed by its policy experts.
