How CEI helped advance sound energy and environmental policy in 2025

When I started at CEI in December 2024, the energy and environment team already had its foot on the gas pedal. As the new administration prepared to take office, our team wanted to ensure our policy priorities were heard and acted upon. We knew the opportunity to make change was ripe.

One of the first priorities was to encourage Congress to rescind the subsidies in the poorly named Inflation Reduction Act (IRA). Our team made it clear that there should be no scalpel approach to getting rid of these subsidies; a sledgehammer was needed. We fought to show that the IRA was not designed to reduce inflation but was instead a misleading, crony, partisan reconciliation bill that would limit consumer choice and raise energy prices. In the end, CEI helped lead the way on efforts to repeal, defund, and phase out IRA subsidies in the One Big Beautiful Bill Act.

Yet the team’s push to dismantle these subsidies was just one part of a broader push to advance sound energy and environmental policy in 2025. To learn more about other important energy and environment issues, see this new short video featuring my colleague, Marlo Lewis. This video only scratches the surface of what CEI’s energy and environment team accomplished in 2025. Best of all, even more great things are underway in 2026.
