More Champagne Before Takeoff, Mr. GS-14?

In a federal government beset by so many other problems, it’s practically charming to discover a little ol’ fashioned government waste that clocks in at under the billion dollar mark. The Government Accountability Office reported this week that federal employees spent $146 million in one year on unauthorized airline flight upgrades.

Government officials are generally expected to fly coach, unless the trip is over 14 hours. Maybe our traveling bureaucrats have been counting the time between arrival and their return flight as part of the 14 hour limit. What is it these days with government employees and their unreasonable demands in the province of air travel?
