As an opera lover, I have to take note of the death of Luciano Pavarotti today at the age of 71. One of the leading tenors of his generation, Pavarotti also helped to popularize opera. In his prime, Pavarotti’s voice was clear, vibrant, clarion, and impeccably on pitch. While “Nessun dorma” from Puccini’s Turandot became his signature aria, listen to his rendition of “Una furtiva lagrima” and here from Donizetti’s L’elisir d’amore for him in a more subtle interpretation.
May he rest in peace.
