Yesterday’s E&E News ran an article titled “Inside conservatives’ disarray on climate.” E&E reporter Mark Matthews was inspired to write the piece by an email from Alliance for Market Solutions executive director Alex Flint. Flint’s thesis: “Anyone who denies the risk of climate change is irresponsible. And being irresponsible disqualifies anyone from being a true conservative.”

Yesterday, the U.S. Senate voted against advancing Sen. Ed Markey (D-MA) and Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez’s (D-NY) Green New Deal resolution to the Senate floor for debate and a final vote. Forty-two Democratic senators and one Independent, including all of the resolution’s Senate co-sponsors, voted “present” on the motion to proceed. All 53 Republicans, three Democrats and one Independent voted against it.

Yesterday I submitted comments on behalf of the Competitive Enterprise Institute supporting EPA’s proposal to dramatically scale back the agency’s 2015 rule establishing “carbon pollution” standards for new coal power plants. This post provides some quick background on EPA’s proposal and then summarizes the key points of my comment letter.

In a letter released earlier this week, 58 “former national security leaders” urge President Trump not to approve the formation of a panel to review the evidence that climate change is a national security threat. The signatories include former Secretary of State John Kerry, former Secretary of Defense Chuck Hagel, and former Secretary of the Navy Ray Mabus.

As AAF’s analysis shows, the Green New Deal would be financially devastating to millions of middle-income households.

California Governor Gavin Newsom (D) on February 12th unexpectedly slammed the brakes on the state’s high-speed rail project. The project “as currently planned, would cost too much and take too long” to build, Newsom explained during his first State of the State address.
