Printers Get Take-Down Notices

The MPAA has sent two network printers take-down notices for supposedly sharing copyrighted movie files. This came about because “researchers at the University of Washington were doing some tests to suss out BitTorrent traffic on their local network when they found a way to spoof traffic from certain IP addresses,” according to CrunchGear. The researchers wanted to test the MPAA’s algorithms for determining to whom to send take-down notices. Clearly, they need a bit of work to avoid being overbroad.
