Speeding Ticket Challenged by GPS
Ars reports on a novel use of in-car GPS technology: getting you out of undeserved speeding tickets. Apparently, a teenager was erroneously ticketed by a cop for going 62 in a 45mph zone. But his GPS device proved that he was only travelling 45mph. The case is ongoing, but if the judge rules in favor of the teenager, this could usher in a new era of using consumer technology as evidence in trials – or at least for challenging bad police practices.
