TSA Liberalizes a Little
The TSA is finally allowing laptop designers to make cases that can pass through TSA security with the laptop inside. With an older case, travellers will still have to remove the laptop and send it through the x-ray machine separately.
Targus and Pathfinder already have cases on the way. The TSA has thankfully adopted the sensible policy of simply allowing manufacturers to try different designs to see if they work with the x-ray machines, rather than going through the process of certifying individual designs. TSA Director Kip Hawley said “Everybody is aware that the process of the government certifying a piece of security equipment involves a lot of time and red tape.” No kidding. Let’s hope the TSA expands its newfound disdain for wasting time and creating red tape more broadly in the future…
