Banks and Trump: ‘The Rally Has Met Reality’

CNBC discusses President Trumps banking and finance policy agenda with John Berlau. 

Trump’s rhetoric has alternated between being tough on Wall Street risk-taking on the one hand, and wanting to use deregulation to accelerate bank lending on the other.

“Consumers, investors and entrepreneurs have been winners” under Trump, said John Berlau, senior fellow at the Competitive Enterprise Institute, a free-market think tank. “The banks that want more freedom, that are innovative, will be winners. The banks that want government support for things like the SIFI designation and use regulation to block their competition are going to be some of the losers.”
