Politico cites CEI’s Clyde Wayne Crews on the release of his new report, the 2026 edition of Ten Thousand Commandments.
The Competitive Enterprise Institute estimates that the compliance costs of federal regulations cost $2.15 trillion annually, according to a new report out this morning. “While 2025 was indeed the year of the Trump ‘unrule’ with a starkly reduced regulatory flow that also included recissions, delays and relaxations of enforcements, these retreats were offset by other forms of presidential intervention,” according to the report’s author, Wayne Crews. “Trump’s regulatory streamlining has not actually translated into governing less. As during Trump’s first term, regulation does not necessarily disappear. It may instead transform into ways that do not appear in the Federal Register.”
