Last night, conservatives gave up on conservatism

The Washington Post discusses President Trump’s policy proposals from his address to a joint session of Congress with CEI President Kent Lassman.

The only regulations Trump does not like are those that concern banking or the environment. The Competitive Enterprise Institute was, unlike Republican, not shy about identifying the contradiction. “Last night, the President reaffirmed his commitment to relieving the overwhelming regulatory burden that costs Americans nearly $1.9 trillion each year,” said CEI president Kent Lassman in a written statement. “However, the rhetoric in the remainder of his address lacked an understanding of some basic economic principles. Trade barriers, ‘Buy American’ mandates, regulated drug prices and trillion dollar infrastructure projects are a far cry from the policies that produce job creation and economic growth.” But Ryan and other conservatives lap it up.
