Overnight Energy: Senate deal clears path for energy bill

Sen. Sheldon Whitehouse (D-R.I.) and Rep. Ted Lieu (D-Calif.) on Monday introduced resolutions to shame fossil fuel companies accused of hiding their climate science research, a charge leveled against Exxon Mobil Corp.
"Apparently, Senator Sheldon Whitehouse is the new Senator Joe McCarthy and green is the new blacklist," said Kent Lassman, the president of the Competitive Enterprise Institute, a free market group that won an Exxon-related subpoena fight against the attorney general of the Virgin Islands.
"It is unhealthy for democracy and abusive when members of Congress create an enemies list based on policy positions."
