You are invited to join CEI for a lunch discussion with Adam Crepelle on his new book Becoming Nations Again: The Journey Towards Tribal Self-Determination. In conversation with Kent Lassman, they will explore how Indian reservations might be transformed from the most heavily regulated areas in the United States into “Islands of Liberty.”
North America’s Indigenous inhabitants had complex governments, cities, and trade networks long before European arrival. Colonization and subsequent U.S. policies restricted tribal autonomy, leading to socioeconomic hardship. Professor Crepelle argues that restoring tribal self-governance and eliminating antiquated regulations are essential to integrating tribes into the federalist system.
