The Competitive Enterprise Institute is hosting a private luncheon with Dr. Oonagh McDonald, author of the recently published Holding Bankers to Account: A Decade of Market Manipulation, Regulatory Failures, and Regulatory Reforms.

CEI Vice President Iain Murray will interview McDonald about her forensic assessment of the 2007 – 2008 financial crisis. McDonald details how major banks manipulated financial benchmarks and regulators entrenched these measures with a particular focus on the London Interbank Offered Rate (LIBOR). Murray will ask McDonald, herself a former regulator, how to improve oversight and secure the financial services industry from future abuse.

Dr. Oonagh McDonald, CBE is an international financial regulatory expert. A prolific author, her previous books include Lehman Brothers: A Crisis of Value and Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac: Turning the American Dream into a Nightmare. She was a Member of Parliament for Thurrock in Essex from 1976 to 1987 and in 1988 was honored by the Queen as a Commander of the British Empire (CBE) for services to financial regulation and business. She was a director of the Securities and Investments Board and subsequently the Financial Services Authority from 1993 to 1998.
