The European Union’s Climate Policies:
The Effects of the Global Financial Crisis and other Realities

Dr.
Calzada will discuss the current state of the European Union’s efforts
to meet its Kyoto targets to reduce greenhouse gas emissions and to
negotiate a second round of reductions to take effect in 2013. He will
pay special attention to the effects the current financial crisis and
economic downturn are having on climate policy, the negative impacts of
the “green” jobs bubble in Spain, the EU’s Emissions Trading Scheme,
and the breakdown of consensus between EU member nations on what should
follow Kyoto.
