FEEcon 2019 VIP Session: What to do About the Rise in Hostility to Capitalism and Free Markets?

CEI Vice President Iain Murray will keynote a breakfast VIP session at FEEcon 2019 on the rise in hostility to capitalism.

For most of the last two decades, free markets were accepted as the centerpiece of economic policy by both the right and center-left over much of the world. Today, however, resurgent socialism on the left and economic nationalism on the right have led to a growing hostility to market thinking and the rise of once-vanquished bugbears like protectionism, coercive antitrust action, and industrial policy, all bolstered by the pre-existing administrative state. Iain’s talk will describe the ongoing global political realignment and what this means for free market thought. This will lead into a discussion with the audience of what are the best ways to promote the free market and capitalism in a radically different political environment.
