CEI Senior Fellow John Berlau spoke at the annual Family Reunion of the National Society of Washington Family Descendants in Mount Vernon. There, he discussed George Washington’s father’s involvement in iron mining, and how British mercantilism prevented colonists from making iron product, including even hammers and horseshoes, and was a hidden cause of the revolution. He also shared Washington’s reading of Adam Smith and setting America on the course of capitalism and entrepreneurship.
