This is the amicus brief filed by the government of the District of Columbia supports the Competitive Enterprise Institute's and National Review's right to an interlocutory appeal before the DC Court of Appeals. The District of Columbia government explains the purpose of the Anti-SLAPP statute is to protect free speech and allow defendants to have baseless claims dismissed quickly. Groundless claims would be allowed to silence legitimate criticism if the appeals court does not review the lower court’s decision.
