Biden Energy Department Unveils New Rules Against Residential Cooking Appliances
Today the U.S. Energy Department unveiled its final rule mandating energy efficiency standards for residential cooking appliances such as gas stoves.
CEI Senior Fellow Ben Lieberman said the rule is less bad than it could have been but still constitutes an unacceptable government encroachment in consumer choice:
“While the Department of Energy’s stove efficiency regulation finalized today is less stringent than the initial proposal that would have forced most gas models off the market, there really shouldn’t be any such federal regulatory meddling in the decisions of consumers. The Competitive Enterprise Institute will continue to push for sunsetting this unnecessary appliance program while also keeping a close eye on the Biden administration’s pending measures targeting furnaces, dishwashers, ceiling fans, washing machines, and water heaters.”
