CBS-Viacom Merger Good Sign for Competition in the Multimedia Marketplace


Viacom and CBS today announced a merger that would combine the two entertainment companies into a single entity more able to compete with companies like Disney and NBCUniversal.

CEI research fellow Patrick Hedger said:

“Mergers are a good sign that the lines between segments of the multimedia marketplace are blurring and that increasingly distinct forms of media find themselves competing with one another. This shouldn’t be mistaken as a sign of diminishing competition by regulators.”
