A new social media bill signed into law by Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis will ban people younger than 14 years old from using social media, putting the privacy of all users at risk. CEI Director of the Center for Technology & Innovation Jessica Melugin explains why this law is bad public policy.

“This law puts all users’ privacy at risk by mandating age verification, ignores parents’ rightful role in deciding what is and is not appropriate for their child, and may sacrifice too much of the free flow of speech to be constitutional. It’s political click bait, but it’s not good public policy.”
