James Gattuso Joins CEI as Vice President

Washington, D. C., December 22nd, 1997 – The Competitive Enterprise Institute (CEI) announced today that James Gattuso has joined the staff as Vice President for Policy and Management. Mr. Gattuso comes to CEI from Citizens for a Sound Economy (CSE) where he was Vice President for Policy Development.

“We are excited that someone with James’ experience and expertise has joined CEI,” commented Fred L. Smith, Jr., president of CEI. “He will be a great addition to our senior staff and give us the opportunity to do more work in a variety of fields.”

In particular, the arrival of Mr. Gattuso provides an opportunity to expand CEI’s work and research in the areas of telecommunications and privacy. While at CSE, Mr. Gattuso was responsible for overseeing the work of the policy staff and directed the group’s telecommunications activities.

“I am looking forward to continuing my work on regulatory policy at CEI. This is a great organization and I anticipate a long and successful relationship with them,” said Mr. Gattuso.

Mr. Gattuso’s background includes service as Associate Director of the President’s Council on Competitiveness in the Office of then-Vice President Dan Quayle, Deputy Director of the Federal Communications Commission’s Office of Plans and Policy, and the McKenna Senior Policy Analyst in Regulatory Affairs at the Heritage Foundation. He received his BA from University of Southern California and his JD from the UCLA School of Law.
