Net Neutrality Rules to be Argued in Court

USA Today discusses CEI's involvement with opposing the FCC's net neutrality rules.

USTelecom, a trade association that counts among its members AT&T and Verizon, and San Antonio-Internet provider Alamo Broadband filed suit with the court asking it to vacate the FCC's rules because they represent an overreach of authority and would inflict the Internet with "heavy-handed, public-utility-style regulation designed for 19th-century railroads and 1930s telephone monopolies," they say in court documents.

Several separate suits against the FCC have been wrapped into the case, including ones filed by AT&T and CenturyLink and trade groups the American Cable Association, Chamber of Commerce of the United States of America, CTIA and the ​National Cable & Telecom Association.

And long lists of supporters have lined up on both sides. Among those asking for the FCC's rules to be vacated: the Competitive Enterprise Institute, National Association of Manufacturers, Telecommunications Industry Association and Washington Legal Foundation and former FCC commissioner Harold Furchtgott-Roth.
