Another Major Country Bans Children From Social Media

The French law adds momentum to a growing global push to protect minors online.

CEI’s Jessica Melugin was cited by the Daily Wire after Australia banned children under 16 from creating accounts for many social media platforms.

In December 2025, Australia became the first nation to ban children under 16 from creating accounts on many social media platforms. 

“We haven’t really seen a plan like this be put into action,” said Jessica Melugin, the director of the Center for Technology & Innovation at the Competitive Enterprise Institute. “So I think the world is certainly watching.”
