Drones: FAA wants to be the DMV for flying toys

Watchdog.org dicusses with Marc Scribner the issue of the Federal Aviation Administrations efforts to require regulation for small drones.

“Our major problem is that Congress said that you can’t regulate model aircraft,” Scribner told Watchdog.org in an interview.

“They said this in 2012,” said Scribner, speaking of the FAA Modernization and Reform Act of 2012, “which is the same law that is having the FAA go through this whole process right now.”

“The best you could hope for under registration is that maybe it would deter some people from flying recklessly because if they crash then the authorities could potentially be able to identify and track it back to them,” said Scribner.
