Presence of Lead, Other Chemicals in Cosmetics Poses Concerns

From Barbara Bradley’s article in The Commercial Appeal:

The Environmental Working Group, a nonprofit advocacy group headquartered in Washington, posts some hair-raising information on its cosmetics safety database, ewg.org/skindeep, which examines nearly 70,000 ingredients and specific products.

Some counter that the EWG and its partner, The Campaign for Safe Cosmetics,” a coalition effort, are fringe groups pushing an anti-chemical agenda to the detriment of public safety. Preservatives, for example, are used in very small quantities and prevent buildup of dangerous bacteria, argues the Competitive Enterprise Institute, a nonprofit dedicated to free enterprise.
