Today, there is less uncertainty in politics. There is major hope for regulatory reform. But the poor economic performance of major Western economies will continue.

The costs of the regulatory state are still exorbitant. Throughout his term, President Obama continued to feed the bureaucracy. In 2016, as reported by Wayne Crews of the Competitive Enterprise Institute, “the Obama administration has issued 3,756 final rules and regulations.” Obama beat all records of regulations appearing in the Federal Register by 13,000 pages, reaching 95,000 pages towards the end of the year.
