Dr. Richard B. Belzer is President of Regulatory Checkbook, a Virginia-based nonprofit corporation whose twofold mission is to improve the quality of scientific and economic information used in regulatory decision making and monitor agency compliance with laws and executive directives intended to accomplish this goal. Regulatory Checkbook does not take positions on substantive policy matters.

From 1988 to 1998, Dr. Belzer served as an economist in the Office of Management and Budget’s Office of Information and Regulatory Affairs, where he earned multiple performance awards. He was twice elected Treasurer of the Society for Risk Analysis (1998, 2000) and Secretary/Treasurer of the Society for Benefit Cost Analysis (2008, 2010). He is also a Fellow of the Cecil and Ida Green Center for the Study of Science and Society. He earned his doctorate from Harvard University in 1989.
