Affordable transportation should be celebrated over “World Car-Free Day”

September 22 is associated with “World Car-Free Day”, an occasion aimed at prodding people to find alternative ways to travel around that day. CEI Senior Fellow Ben Lieberman finds this sort of anti-car message at odds with the extraordinary benefits of personal automobility.
“Affordable personal transportation benefits millions of Americans and is something to be celebrated rather than discouraged. Few technologies have done more for expanding freedom and improving the quality of our lives than the car. Low income and minority communities benefit most, as an affordable vehicle is critical to upward mobility and self-sufficiency.”
