CEI Comments on Trump’s Announcement of Alexander Acosta as Labor Secretary Nominee

Earlier this week, President Trump’s nominee for Labor Secretary, Andrew Puzder, withdrew his nomination. On February 16, 2017, President Trump announced that his new Labor Secretary nominee is Alexander Acosta. Competitive Enterprise Institute labor policy expert Trey Kovacs commented on Acosta’s nomination:

“Alexander Acosta has experience dealing with tough labor and employment issues from his experience at the National Labor Relations Board and the Justice Department’s Civil Rights Division. But there is much we do not know yet about this nominee. During the confirmation process, senators should ask Acosta about urgent reforms needed from the agency, such as ending the budget-busting overtime pay mandate imposed by the Obama administration and withdrawing agency policies that hurt independent contractors and franchise businesses and jobs.”
