CEI Expert to Speak on Rogue Websites at AFP Summit
Washington, D.C., November 4, 2011—CEI Associate Director of Technology Studies Ryan Radia is speaking tomorrow on a panel at the American for Prosperity Foundation’s Fifth Annual “Defending the American Dream Summit.” The summit, a two-day event in Washington, D.C., is hosting over 3,000 activists and features many of the nation’s leading conservative and free market advocates and thought leaders. Radia will participate in a panel discussion on “Keeping the Internet and Americans Safe from Illegal Foreign Rogue Websites.” The panel will be moderated by Steve Tepp, chief intellectual property counsel at the U.S. Chamber of Commerce’s Global Intellectual Property Center. Panelists include Andrew Langer, president of the Institute for Liberty; and Tim Lee, vice president of legal and public affairs at the Center for Individual Freedom.
On tomorrow’s panel, Radia will discuss the benefits and concerns of bills before the Senate and U.S. House of Representatives aimed at combating rogue websites that flout U.S. intellectual property laws. He will also discuss how lawmakers can craft legislation to address the problem without hindering Internet innovation or burdening lawful protected speech.
