CEI Launches Information Site Devoted to National Regulatory Modernization for Insurance

Washington,
D.C., June 23, 2009—The
Competitive Enterprise Institute today announced the formal launch of a new
website devoted to news and information about the National Insurance Consumer
Protection Act and an optional federal charter for insurance companies.

The site, nicpa.org, will be
supported by a significant Google advertising budget and will be updated
several times a week. “Our Frequently Asked Questions document on OFC is
already the top search for ‘optional federal charter,’ but we wanted to create
a place where all the information relevant to national regulatory modernization
was in one place,” explains CEI Senior Fellow Eli Lehrer, the team leader for
CEI’s insurance project. “This website does it.”

“Our goal is to give the free market perspective on the idea
of an optional federal charter, while also providing accurate and timely
information on the debate,” says CEI Policy Analyst Kevin Hilferty, the site’s
administrator. “We may have a free market point of view, but we aim to
acknowledge both sides of the debate and engage it as best as we can.”

Future revisions of the website may also feature online
debates, interactive Q&A sessions, and other enhancements.
