CEI & South Carolina Department of Insurance Host Major Conference

Washington, D.C., September 16, 2008—The Competitive Enterprise Institute, a think tank often skeptical of government action, is joining with the South Carolina Department of Insurance to host a major conference on catastrophic risk.

Conference panels and workshops will take place at the Westin Hilton Head Resort and Spa on the 18th and 19th of September, 2008.  Attendance at the conference is free for members of the press who may register on site.

Scott Richardson, the Director of South Carolina’s Department of Insurance, will host the conference along with Eli Lehrer, the team leader of CEI’s insurance project.

In addition to Richardson and Lehrer, speakers include Florida Department of Insurance Regulation Commissioner Kevin McCarty, Federal Alliance for Safe Homes President and CEO Leslie Chapman-Henderson and National Wildlife Federation Water Resources Specialist David Conrad.

“This is a different kind of conference,” says Lehrer. “We’ve brought together the top experts from the academic, legislative, and corporate worlds. We’re hoping to actually move towards solving some of the thorniest problems in insurance.”

Additional information about the conference is on its website outofthestorm08.com.
