Today, the Senate voted to rescind the Biden EPA’s waiver allowing California to ban the sale of new gas-powered cars by 2035. This follows a vote earlier this month in the House, when 35 House Democrats joined Republicans in voting for the resolution. Once President Trump signs the resolution into law, the EPA waiver will be revoked.
CEI Director of the Center for Energy & Environment and Senior Fellow Daren Bakst applauds the Senate on their decision:
“We applaud the legislators in the Senate and the House for using the Congressional Review Act to stop California and its blue state allies from banning the sale of new gas-powered cars by 2035. Eleven states and DC had already agreed to follow California’s lead, and, practically, these actions would have had a national effect.
“Americans understandably want the ability to choose the car or truck that best suits their needs. The Biden EPA, California, and its state allies sought to take that choice away from Americans by going around Congress to push policy that is well beyond what is authorized by law. Today, Senators supporting the CRA resolution defended freedom, consumer choice, and the rule of law. Today is a big victory for the nation.”
